Don’t Wait for Borderlands 2 – Just Play ‘The Border Lands’

the border lands

Wow, there’s a definite retro-vibe going on today, with this next piece of news coming to us from 2K Games and Gearbox Software. As we all wait for the release of Borderlands 2, the sequel to 2009′s shooter/RPG, we can step back in time to 1989 and play The Border Lands!

Have we ever seen such a fantastic piece of marketing? This wonderfully-retro demake is fully playable and fits nicely on 5 floppy disks. Oh, you don’t have a floppy disk drive anymore? Well, check out the online version at here for all your 16-bit, arcade-style action (note: the site is getting pretty hammered so it might take a few tries to access). As further promotion for the title, Gearbox have “uncovered” a YouTube-type video from the late 80s, in which an excited gamer shows us the ropes. Well, at least he tries to. Check it out:
