Steam’s Big Picture Mode Enters Beta This September

Steam Big Picture Mode

Goodbye console, hello PC. Valve just announced that their Big Picture mode for Steam will be entering Beta this September. Big Picture allows you to plug your PC into any TV and enjoy the Steam experience with a layout designed for this medium – larger fonts and controller-supported menus being the main aspects.

Part of the appeal of console gaming has always been the big screen, comfy sofa, and small controller. PC players usually have to deal with a smaller screen, desk chair, and large mouse and keyboard. This may be an exaggeration, but bringing the wonderful (and popular) game distribution service, Steam, to our living rooms could be just the incentive many gamers need to add a PC to their home entertainment center.

Does this mean that the rumored Steam Box may actually be true? After all. this move is certainly a step in the right direction for a dedicated Steam console. Gabe Newell still insists that it isn’t coming, but that’s no reason to give up hope.
