Hey look it’s another halloween trailer, our industry is so original and this time it’s Castlevania Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate. That’s a bit of a mouthful, they could probably do without the Lords of Shadow part but I assume Konami want to make sure everyone knows this 3DS Castlevania game ties in the console game from 2010. It’s not a bad idea actually considering Lords of Shadow was the first time a console Castlevania title was anything but awful.
For some reason I’ve actually not been keeping any eye on Mirror of Fate despite being a fan of the series, maybe it’s the 3D visuals that throw me off because I was pretty content with the Castlevania titles on the GameBoy Advance and later DS. This is a little odd but for my own sake here’s some details on Mirror of Fate with the halloween trailer after the jump.
The epic Nintendo 3DS™ title tells the story of Simon and Trevor Belmont (voiced by Alec Newman and Richard Madden respectively), both descendants of Gabriel Belmont (voiced by Robert Carlyle). Gabriel has returned as a powerful vampire called Dracula, threatening to destroy the brotherhood and anyone who stands against him.
Gabriel was also revealed to be the prince of darkness in the original Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and an all-new prologue level allows users to control Gabriel once again before his transformation.
Developed by Mercury Steam and mixing intense combat with deep exploration elements, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate showcases the same aesthetic and gameplay that made Castlevania: Lords of Shadow the most successful Castlevania game in the series’ illustrious history.
Taking place 25 years after the events of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, this game is also a precursor to the highly anticipated Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC.
The all new two-minute trailer details the combat, platforming and challenges present in the game, while the stunning 3D locations act as a tantalizing taster of what fans can expect next year. With an estimated play-time of around 20 hours, the title will offer a suitably deep action adventure experience, and a graphical tour de force on the handheld.
The game’s orchestral score by award winning composer Oscar Araujo is also showcased, adding to the suitably gothic atmosphere in a tale that explores the bonds of family and inescapable destiny.
That will teach me to dismiss a handheld Castlevania game, it looks great and sounds promising. Excuse me while I add this one to my Amazon wishlist.
