Okay so the iPad Mini we all saw coming but I don’t think many were expecting an iPad 4 to also be announced. Right with this being Apple we need to be really careful, by that I mean I want to give you the facts and not silly quotes like the best just got better. It may sound a little off topic to talk about these devices but they happen to play games in case you forgot, iOS gaming is a pretty big deal these days.
I should probably start off with the main announcement and that would be the iPad mini, worst kept secret in ages? You bet.
The iPad mini is as the name suggests is a smaller version of the iPad featuring a 7.9 inch screen compared to the usual 9.7 inch screen you normally see on the other iPad models. Unfortunately that’s pretty much where the fun stops as the same screen resolution and dual-core A5 chip found on the second generation iPad makes a return therefore making the iPad mini something closer to an iPad 2 mini than an iPad 3 mini. No retina display for you.
Not everything about the iPad mini is the same as the iPad 2, the camera is actually the same one featured on the iPad 3 meaning the front camera is capable of taking 1.2MP photos and record videos in 720p. The back camera is the superior one of the two sporting 5MP photos and the ability to record videos in full HD 1080p.
It’s also using the new lighting connector first seen in the iPhone 5 last month and a nano sim card which is even smaller than the micro sim.
To some all these details might be easy to confuse and mix up so think of it this way, iPad mini is basically a 7.9 inch version of iPad 2 with an iPad 3 camera. If you prefer Apple’s long winded version of what I just said then watch the following video below.
The more silent announcement of the two was obviously the iPad 4 and once I detail what’s changed I’m sure you’ll see why. Basically it features the A6X chip and the lightning connector seen in the iPhone 5 and that’s about it.
The iPad 4 will retail for the same price as the iPad 3 and will begin shipping on November 2nd. iPad mini will also ship on the same day as the iPad 4 but the prices are obviously lower so I’ve listed them below.
