A new Kirby game for the Nintendo 3DS has been revealed earlier today via Nintendo Direct. No title has been given so we’re just going to call it Kirby 3DS until Nintendo assigns it one and it’s coming sometime in 2014. That could be early 2014 or late 2014 but considering we don’t even have a proper title yet, I’m going to assume we’ll be seeing this one later rather than sooner.
Kirby 3DS appears to stick closely the “Dreamland” blueprint set by Kirby’s Dreamland on the original GameBoy. In particular this game could pass off as a direct sequel to the Wii game, Kirby’s Return to Dreamland/Kirby’s Adventure Wii. In fact for the first couple of seconds into the trailer, I actually thought it was some kind of port similar to Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.
The little pink blob doesn’t seem to get as much love as Nintendo’s other franchises but the games are just as good. Not too long ago I did an editorial piece for Kirby’s Adventure on the NES so I’m definitely a fan.
Something that is very apparent in the trailer is the way the game has been designed with the 3D in mind, you can clearly see enemies and objects moving in and out of the stages. It should be a real showcase for 3D gaming so if you’re one of the cheap ass gamers who plan on picking on a 2DS, enjoy your watered down version of the game.
