Super Markup Man is an HTML5 game that doubles as a teaching tool for HTML. In this 2D platformer, players “build” a website by picking up and moving HTML tags around the level. In doing so, players can learn the rules and organization of HTML markup without having to write any actual code!
Super Markup Man was a collaborative effort by The Hello World Program and Roppy Chop Studios and can be played for free on the Hello World website at: http://www.thehelloworldprogram.com/html-markup-game/
The Hello World team plans to follow this up with a series of tutorials explaining how they made the game and encouraging readers to build their own HTML5 canvas applications. The introductory blog post can be found here: http://www.thehelloworldprogram.com/learn-html-with-our-new-html5-game/
The Hello World Program is an educational children’s show designed to teach all things related to technology and digital media. It combines old-school puppetry with computer science, featuring a video series hosted by hand-made puppets who discuss everything from HTML to Linux commands.
Roppy Chop Studios is an independent game developer that first started making games for the Xbox Live indie channel. Their last XBLIG game was Build ‘n Bump. Since then, they’ve moved on to web-based gaming with the help of HTML5. There is even an HTML5 version of Build ‘n Bump:http://bump.roppychop.com
