It appears that the “Year of Luigi” could be bigger than what we expected if an online listing regarding Luigi’s Mansion 2 is to be believed. Otherwise known as Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon over in America, Luigi’s Mansion 2 was released earlier this year “exclusively” for the Nintendo 3DS and it was a pretty good game, it certainly made the original GameCube version look like a tech demo by comparison.
NeoGAF member Madao managed to find a Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon listing for Wii U over at Newegg. There’s always a chance that the listing eventually gets taken down so here’s a screen cap to prove it’s existence. The box art definitely looks like a place holder as does the 12/31/2013 release date.
So why bother reporting on a seemingly random listing with a box art taken from someone on DeviantArt? Well the guys over at Nintendo News decided to have a chat with a Newegg employee who reassured them that “all the information on the item page comes straight from the manufacturer“.
Kevin: So, having said that, you’re confirming to me that Nintendo has released those details to Newegg. And, most importantly, that the subject listing is, in fact, accurate?
Lydia: All the information on the item page is from the manufacturer and we do guarantee that information.
The possibility of a Wii U port of Luigi’s Mansion 2 isn’t the more far fetched thing I’ve heard. The game could certainly benefit from using an additional analogue stick and the checkpoint system wasn’t very handheld friendly to begin with. I’m not sure about making this a retail title though, an eShop digital download would be far more reasonable.
