Street Fighter X Tekken is set to receive yet another update and Capcom have released a trailer highlighting some of the changes players can expect. At the moment the update is known as version 2013 and does not appear to have a release date yet though if they are releasing trailers then it shouldn’t be too far off.
The 2013 update is designed to offer up the usual list of balance tweaks alongside other changes such as the “FIGHT” text at the start of the match disappearing faster so it’s not in the way during first attacks. Capcom have not yet released a full list of changes so for the time being you’ll have to make do with what you see in the trailer. While it’s nice to see Capcom continuing to support the game you do have to wonder if it’s too little too late for Street Fighter X Tekken.
Street Fighter X Tekken wasn’t the game that it should of been, what could of been a solid game was hurt by Capcom’s stupidity regarding the game’s DLC content. As most of you already know someone at Capcom thought it would be a good idea to lock away 12 characters that were already on the disc and sell them later as “DLC”. The other mistake was the game’s reliance on using a gems system which has turned away many players including those in the tournament scene.
If you’re wondering why Capcom is actually supporting this one instead of the usual “Super/Ultimate/Arcade” style updates it’s likely to do with licensing. As far as I’m aware Capcom can release one crossover game with Tekken and Namco in turn can do one game crossing over with Street Fighter. Any re-releases would require new contracts and deals to be signed therefore they are stuck updating what they already released so to speak, it’s for the best anyway.
Is this update going to be enough? Well probably not and though more updates will be arriving in the future it’s unlikely Street Fighter X Tekken will find the audience Capcom were hoping to reach. I personally was pretty interested in the game until I saw the gems system so if they are hoping to win me over then those gems have got to go. At the same time the whole game is designed around it so it’s a real tricky problem for Capcom.
