As of this fall, Star Wars: The Old Republic will be going to implement a hybrid model to their service. In other words, they are going Free to Play. As predicted by so many media outlets, it’s about time this happens. The game will be completely free to play until level 50, restrictions will happen through the use of microtransaction.
A standard subscription based model will still be available, and those subscribed will get Cartel Coins (a.k.a. cash shop currency).
Bioware GM, Matthew Bromberg stated; ”Players want flexibility and choice. The subscription-only model presented a major barrier for a lot of people who wanted to become part of The Old Republic universe.”
