Peggle 2 (Xbox One Review)

peggle 2 xbox one review

This could have been the shortest review I have ever written, I just wanted to write ‘It’s Peggle 2′ and leave it at that but I know you our loyal readers would want to know more.

For those who have played Peggle before you will feel right at home with this high definition version of the addictive peg popping game. If you haven’t played Peggle before then you have missed out but do not fear because Peggle 2 is brighter, more colourful and twice as fun.

Apart from slight changes to the display not much has changed. Peggle 2, like the original is equal parts luck and skill and this, in my view is part of it’s charm. There are times when you may spend ages lining up the perfect shot only for it to fly off in a completely different direction to that which you expected and others when an incredible shot is actually pure fluke!. Luckily Xbox One will capture the impressive shots whether they be luck or skill.

Peggle 2 takes you on a straightforward journey through different levels which, once completed unlock new levels and new characters. For each level there are 3 optional challenges to complete such as “Complete with more than 4 balls remaining”. These ensure that you are able to play each level several times but with a different objective. But be warned these challenges are addictive and, if playing with a friend, spouse or partner can become highly competitive.

The introduction of new characters with different special abilities is the main difference from the original Peggle. Bjorn the Unicorn is still the first character that gamers are introduced to with his “superguide” to get you into the Peggle “zone”. The rest of the characters are newbies but their unique special powers are fun and creative. Everyone will have their favourite character but each lends their talent to a particular set of levels so for the greatest Peggle success choose wisely.

The characters are more fully formed than previously. As they stand beside the Peggle board watching your game they become visibly nervous or excited dependent on how well you are doing. I personally think this is a nice addition to the game. The characters also have their own soundtrack which are all grand and orchestral. If you happen to get stuck on a particular level this may become annoying however this will all be forgotten about once the fanfare announces that you have cleared all the orange pegs.

There are a number of arcade style games available to download on Xbox One such as Star Wars Angry Birds (£34.99) but at only £9.99 Peggle 2 is a steal. I would thoroughly recommend that you stop reading this review, download Peggle 2 and train hard to become a Peggle Master.
