Good news for fans of classic Sega racing games, 90′s Arcade Racer is coming to the Wii U. No it’s not developed by Sega, it’s actually a very promising Kickstarter project that recently met it’s target goal. Trust me I hate Kickstarter more than anyone but even I can ignore this game, if you played games like Virtua Racing, Daytona and Super GT then this game is a love letter to you.
The game was due to be released on PC, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS which is basically every platform that I never game on so I just ignored 90′s Arcade Racer. Thankfully a Wii U version of the game has been added to the list meaning I’m now officially excited again, so much so that I may throw in a pledge and get my name on the credits.
- This is an arcade racing game based on games that I loved playing in the arcades growing up.You could say it’s inspired by those games, maybe a tribute to them or simply a rip off, any of these could be true!
- There are three different car classes, Supercar, Stock and Formula. The first two will have a drifting handling model but different dynamics and the Formula car will be about high grip line racing.
- The game will feature three tracks playable both in normal or reverse each with two unique routes. The tracks will be Short/Beginner, Medium/Amateur and Long/Professional. My goal here is for the tracks to be unique, memorable, fun to simply be in and a nice blend between reality and fantasy. All while keeping with the 90′s theme.
- The structure of the game is very simple, select your car and track and race both against the clock and AI trying to set the best score. There will also be a championship mode for each car class.
No release date is known yet for the game, the project is still in the process of being funded after all. The £10,000 goal has been reached so the game is happening for sure but if it manages to reach £15,000 then the game will benefit from more content and nicer visuals.
