Yesterday, on stage at the Euogamer Expo, Just Add Water (Developments) Ltd. CEO Stewart Gilray announced that the upcoming remake of Abe’s Oddysee will be called Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee - New ‘n’ Tasty. This name was chosen after running a competition on Oddworld Inhabitants, and is a perfect fit for the game.
“Oddworld Inhabitants is always overwhelmed by the fan dedication to Abe and the games and hope to keep them involved in the creative process for future games,” said Lorne Lanning, founder and co-owner of Oddworld Inhabitants, ”We are all excited about giving a new generation of gamers the opportunity to play Abe’s Oddysee the way they deserve.”
The original game was already fantastic, but the new version will feature many improvements, including the following:
· fully 3D rendered environments with ‘2.5D’ gameplay;
· levels redesigned to take advantage of the new engine;
· rerecorded sounds and voices, including some surprises; and
· full integration with gaming platforms.
We also found out that the game will be launching on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network (for both PS3 and PS Vita), with a PC version coming later. Unfortunately, it’s not due until Q4 2013, so we’ll all have to find some other games to snack on until then.
