Activision Acquire Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles License

Activision have acquired the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles license earlier today it has been announced. Off the top of my head it was Konami who had the license from the early 80′s into the 00′s and developed some great games for the franchise. Ubisoft picked up the license and to be fair never did much with it, there was that GameBoy Advance Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game which was cool but nothing beyond that.

It’s Activision’s turn now and if you’re thinking they plan to milk this one to death then you might be right as three titles are already in development with the first arriving this summer.

“Activision is a leader in the gaming industry and we are honored to have them as the global video game partner for our new hit series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” said Sherice Torres, Senior Vice President of Entertainment Products, Nickelodeon Consumer Products.

We are confident that these upcoming games will take gamers through interactive environments and action-packed adventures that truly capture the essence, tone and exciting elements of the Turtles.

To be fair it’s easy to pick on Activision and assume only terrible games lie ahead but I should remind you of the Transformers games developed by High Moon Studios. Transformers Fall of Cybertron was one of the first games I reviewed for Masonic Gamer and gave it a solid 8.0 so we’ll have to wait and see if Activision can achieve similar success with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles license.
