Assassin’s Creed IV Next Gen Technical Achievements Trailer

Yet another Assassin’s Creed IV trailer makes it’s way online and this one is surprisingly increasing my hype for the game. I basically had the Assassin’s Creed IV down as a lazy port with some extra bells and whistles from what we’ve been seeing on the current generation but there’s nice neat enhancements in the “Next-Gen” version, gosh I hate using that word.

First up is the dynamic ripple shader and this is what makes the ground go one step further than “hey guys, we’re using bump mapping“. When it rains in Assassin’s Creed IV, you’ll be able to see puddles react to the direction of the wind which helps give the game a not so static look.

Also contributing to making the game look like a real world and not a pretty picture are the dynamic 3D plants which now move realistically as players walk through them. Again nothing major but it’s a nice touch and better than the usual clipping through plants we’re used to seeing.

If you want a full breakdown of everything then check out the video below. Seriously check it out, Ubisoft are really eager to tell you about how pretty their water looks.

That’s Assassin’s Creed IV for you, a game that looks a lot better when the weather is awful. It sounds like all these enhancements could make for an awesome final battle showdown.
