Ubisoft have announced a stand-alone mobile game that centres around naval combat, treasure hunting and all round seafaring called Assassin’s Creed: Pirates.
Pirates will be released for Android and iOS smart phones and tablets later this year. Pirates will take place in the Golden Age of piracy in the 18th century Caribbean but doesn’t share any storyline with Assassin’s Creed 4.
The sandbox (or should that be seabox?) style game takes players through the memories of Alonzo Batilla, a young, ambitious pirate on a mission to find the elusive treasures of La Buse. The game is composed of 20km areas for players to explore, plunder and fight in.
Players will confront the traditional Assassin’s Creed foes of Templars, other assassins as well as taking part in naval battles. By securing treasure, prizes and bounties from stricken enemies players can improve their fleet with better weapons, new recruits and gain more XP.
Whilst Pirates doesn’t share any significant plot points with Assassin’s Creed 4 characters such as Blackbeard, Bellamy and Hornigold will all make an appearance in Pirates.
Assassin’s Creed: Pirates is also separate from the Black Flag companion app. The companion app acts as a type of mini-game associated with a players Black Flag game. Allowing them to manage their fleet, sending them on trade missions and more. For more details check out the full story here.
This year could well be the year of the sandbox. With Ubisoft releasing a couple of very promising looking titles, Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed 4, Saints Row IV being very well received and GTA V just around the corner. All we need now is a surprise release of Just Cause 3 and all will be well in the world.
