Big Changes Coming For Protoss in HOTS Beta

Protoss2

Balancing any game is no easy task, and it gets even harder when the game in question is an incredibly deep and complex RTS with millions of players worldwide and a thriving professional scene. Starcraft 2′s first expansion, Heart of the Swarm has been in closed beta for a couple of weeks now and many players have been voicing their concerns about the state of the Protoss race.

Two of the three new units for Protoss, the Oracle and Tempest are widely considered to be far too expensive and situational to be genuinely useful most matchups. Players are finding themselves still largely dependant on units and strategies from Wings of Liberty.

Fortunately, the team at Blizzard seem well aware of the problems currently facing Protoss players in the HOTS beta, and have posted the following statement on the official Starcraft 2 forum.

“We have heard your concerns. We are on it the case. Our next patch will have lots of changes for Protoss. David is preparing a situation report for you guys that explains all the details. See what you think when he gets it out. Hopefully you will be playing with changes soon and we can see how it goes.”

Since the whole point of this beta is to fine tune the balance it’s hardly surprising that there are problems. Still, it’s great to see that Dustin Browder and Co agree with the community are are moving to address them.
