DayZ, a multiplayer modification for Arma 2 and its expansion Operation Arrowhead was open to all in alpha stage in only recent time and since then Arma 2 has made a lot of sales due to it, in the extent of causing the 2010 game reaching in the top sales list on the Steam store because people wanted to play the mod.
A recent established indie developer team named Hammerpoint Interactive have announced that they are making a game called “The War Z” While this has gained so much mainstream popularity other people got an insight to it and thought what if they could pull off a similar game.Just like you get WoW, Minecraft and other popular game clones. But maybe this could be different and bring new features in a nicer package instead of a modification why not its own client? And since DayZ was initially was supposed to be MMO like why not make a similar game that really is an MMO under the a more up to date engine . But remember, trying to copy or take inspiration is like flattery for the team who brought you DayZ. And maybe competition, another thought is that DayZ is only in Alpha now so maybe by the time The War Z comes out Day Z will be in a better state and even more the mod team have hinted it will be getting ported to the new Arma 3 engine when it comes out.
Well ‘The War Z’ so its titled will feature more elements such as players being able to learn skills to aid them for survival like levelling in other MMO’s. In an interview with IGN one of the representatives said that:
While exploring the world, scavenging for supplies, weapons, ammo and gear, players will be able to find notes and diaries – text pieces left by other players or NPCs.
It almost sounds like a hybrid of Fallout 3 and Diablo but with the open PVP aspect and a real sense of trying to survive. The game will sell at the same price as the Arma Combined Operations but will feature shiny graphics and a newer game engine than Arma 2’s.
