It’s impossible to peruse any video game site these days without stumbling upon stories from DayZ. The multiplayer zombie survival game has taken the world by storm, and inspired many to journal their tales of terror while navigating through its deadly landscape. At the moment, its a PC-only affair, but could it soon be coming to consoles? Project Lead, Dean Hall, really hopes it will.
Speaking to Joystiq at this year’s Gamescom, Hall indicated that the possibility of console development lies solely on the success of the PC version. ”You’re not going to put it on the consoles if you’re only going to sell 100,000 units or something like that,” he said. “DayZ will be driven by its PC development and it will innovative on that. And, once we’re at a point, we’ll take it and do a Mac version, 360 and PS3.”
It sounds as though he may be preparing for such a possibility, though, as talks with potential console developers are going on right now. How you judge the success of a free mod is beyond my understanding of the industry, but if mind share has anything to do with it, I don’t think DayZ has anything to worry about.
