It looks like you’ll have to wait a while before you’ll be able to see/play the next Gears of War entry by Microsoft’s new Black Tusk studio.
As you may know, Microsoft announced this week that it had acquired the rights to the Gears Of War franchise from Epic Games.
So, the next game in the series will be handled by Microsoft’s new Black Tusk studio (MS Vancouver). However, seems that we’ll have to wait awhile before the game’s release, as the studio literally just just started to work on it.
This was revealed by Microsoft Studios head Phil Spencer via Twitter:
“Leadership team has been involved for a month but studio has only been on Gears for a week,” said Spencer on Wednesday.
This would suggest that the fruits of the new deal - the first Gears of War game for Microsoft’s new console - is still a long way off, with most modern AAA titles typically taking at least two years to develop.
Black Tusk Studios was formed in late 2012 as a rebranded version of Microsoft Vancouver. At the time it was formed, studio manager Mike Crump said they were “working on Microsoft’s next big entertainment franchise”.
