God of War Ascension’s Trial of Archimedes To Be Nerfed

God of War 600 x 300

Todd Papy, game director on God of War Ascension has announced that the overly difficult Trial of Archimedes is to be nerfed with a patch. In case you’ve not been paying attention, towards the end of God of War Ascension there is one part where the game decides to spike the difficulty for no reason other than “Hey you made it this far, you want to see the final boss? NO!, piss off!”.

Personally the Trial of Archimedes caused me some trouble and delayed my review of God of War Ascension by a day. It’s not actually the hardest thing on the planet, it’s just generally quite cheap and the sudden difficulty spike is uncalled for given how close you are to the end. Click here if you want to read about me complaining regarding the stupid trial.

There is no doubt going to be an outcry from certain fans complaining about the upcoming nerf, do not listen to these people as they are being silly. It’s not about making the game easier, it’s about balancing a certain section of the game so it falls in line with the rest of the difficulty seen in the game up until that point. If you’re going to give players a challenge then do it throughout the game or save it for an awesome boss. Don’t throw a bland gauntlet with repetitive spawning enemies and no checkpoints that only serve to highlight the weaknesses in the combat engine.

I’m pissed off over what happened and it did affect my enjoyment of the game but it’s going to be patched so we should commend the team on listening to feedback. Remember guys, if you don’t like something, make noise about it as I have done.
