One of the criticisms I had when reviewing Rock Band Blitz was the strange use of coins to select power-ups at the beginning of each song. Sure the coins could be earned during play, but many players pointed out that the amount earned never equaled the amount spent, so those looking to get high scores needed to “grind” a bit to build up their coin stash.
Well, Harmonix have listened to the complaints and are adjusting the structure accordingly. From now on, Track, Note, and Overdrive power-ups have standardized prices, and players will get an even 100-coin reward for each star they earn on a song. This should ensure that rockers’ coin purses stay at roughly the same level, assuming they get 5-stars on each track. Lousy Blitzers will still need to grind a little, but at least this gets them a little more practice.
On top of this, Score Wars winners will earn a healthy 1,500 coins for their troubles, and the losers get a consolation prize of 500 coins. It’s great to see a company respond so quickly to player feedback, and gives me hope that Rock Band Blitz may still ascend to the level of excellence so many wished for.
