Amidst the media storm around the big boys of games consoles Mad Catz, better know for their range of gaming peripherals, have announed M.O.J.O.
M.O.J.O. is “an Android Micro Console configured to harness the maximum gaming horsepower from an Android device” and is expected to be released towards the end of this year, the same time as Sony and Microsoft plan to release their consoles. M.O.J.O is described as “basically a supercharged smart phone with no screen” which you can plug into your TV to experience mobile gaming in your living room.
The console is being designed specifically to interact with the already existing range of Mad Catz accessories, such as gamepads and keyboards, and is expected to ship with the C.T.R.L.R Wireless GamePad. This controller includes a “Mouse Mode” for touch based games.
Mad Catz want M.O.J.O to be an open platform, with people able to buy games, music and movies in the same way they do from Amazon, Google Play or other app stores.
With M.O.J.O, Mad Catz are going into competition with systems like Ouya. Rather than smaller companies battling against the titans of Microsoft and Sony, they’re bringing some diversity into a different end of the market which can only be a good thing.
