Mario Kart 8 is one of the most anticipated games of 2014 but it can be hard to get excited about something when you don’t even know when it’s coming. This all ends today as Nintendo’s very own Satoru Iwata has revealed that we’ll be getting our hands on Mario Kart 8 in May.
The news comes from Nintendo’s quarterly earnings presentation in which Satoru Iwata had the fun job of explaining to everyone what he plans to do in order to save the Wii U. Don’t look at me, I’m not here to bash the Wii U. These are the words from Nintendo’s PR group themselves.
Although a May release date has been revealed for Mario Kart 8, there’s no word on whether Satoru Iwata was referring to a worldwide release or if he was simply implying a Japanese release date. Considering Nintendo is generally pretty good at localisation these days, I think it’s fair to assume we’ll all be seeing Mario Kart 8 in May even if the release dates per region are a few days apart.
As for the game itself, well Nintendo released a new trailer last month which looks a lot better than you would expect from the series. It may just end up being the prettiest Wii U game yet although there’s certainly nothing pretty about getting hit by a blue shell on the final lap.
