Konami are continuing to drip more information about their upcoming open-world releases: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes & The Phantom Pain.

As I detailed the other week there are some new features in Ground Zeroes that Konami and Kojima Productions are eager for us to understand before the game sneaks onto our consoles in a few weeks time, and they’ve released a whole host of screens and concept art to whet our collective appetites.

One of these is the Mother Base concept, introduced in Peace Walker, that is going to be a core component of Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain. Pre-orderers and early adopters will get an extra boost to their Mother Bases in Ground Zeroes and these bonuses, and the rest of Mother Base, will continue over into the Phantom Pain.

Aside from the sandbox gameplay, the other big feature coming to Ground Zeroes is the in game iDROID and accompanying app. The app will mimic the in-game functionality of the iDROID and allow players to access maps, game information and manage Mother Base on Android, iPhone and Smart Glass devices. The iDROID app also allows players to manage their base whilst away from the game as well as listening to music and intel found throughout Ground Zeroes.

As many of you will have gathered, Ground Zeroes is acting as a prequel to The Phantom Pain, the former introducing characters and concepts for the latter. This isn’t the first time Kojima has done this, the tanker mission from MGS2 and the Virtuous mission from MGS3 are in essence prequels within the game itself. This is the first time they’ve come separately, which is why Konami/Kojima have taken some heat from fans and a contributing factor to the price drop a few weeks back.

Enjoy the screens below. Some of the concept art is pretty darn cool and the iDROID app looks like it could be an interesting addition.
