Need for Speed Introduces “Easy Drive” Kinect Features

Trying to use a controller while in a high-speed pursuit can be so much hassle, which is why Need For Speed: Most Wanted is bringing voice control, via Kinect. Dubbed “Easy Drive”, you’ll be able to start your car, switch vehicles, and modify your ride on the fly, all with the power of your voice.

There’ll be chassis changes, tire changes, and various other tweaks accessible from on-screen menus, giving players full control of their cars without inconvenient button presses. The idea itself doesn’t sound bad, but one wonders how useful it’ll actually be.

In the following video, producer Chris Roberts demonstrates the Kinect control, and at one point notes that “some people may forget that that right stick is how you move the camera around”, necessitating the use of the “look around” voice command. Okay….. I suppose that’s good for when my 80-year-old grandmother plays, but if any gamer has trouble remembering that the right stick moves the camera, they may want to check with their local physician for signs of dementia.

Useless commands aside, the feature may have some good uses, and it’ll be interesting to see how it’s received when Need for Speed: Most Wanted launches at the end of the month.
