Nintendo Direct E3 Summary

nintendo_direct_pre_e3_2012

The massive Nintendo Direct E3 special has concluded and it was kind of rubbish to be honest. For all the hype Nintendo was building towards it and with all the Miiverse drawings, the final show contained some good stuff but overall felt very lackluster.

We’ll get to the complaining afterwards but first let’s the summary of what went down out of the way.

  • Satoru Iwata welcomes us to Nintendo Direct.
  • The show starts off with a trailer for Pokemon X/Y.
  • Due in October 12th.
  • 3D Mario revealed, looks like 3D Land. How very disappointing :(
  • Official title is Super Mario 3D World, makes sense.
  • Due in December 2013.
  • Mario Kart Wii U revealed.
  • Features anti-gravity so you can race on the side of walls.
  • Holy crap this game looks AWESOME!
  • Mario Kart 8 is the official title.
  • Due in spring 2014.
  • Wii Party U trailer shown.
  • Wii Party U delayed, now arriving later than expected.
  • Wii Fit U also delayed but should be out in the winter.
  • Iwata is sorry for the lack of games. Yeah man, you better be.
  • Art Academy Wii U revealed.
  • Will be available in the eShop this summer.
  • Wii U 3rd party montage video, nothing you don’t already know.
  • Legend of Zelda Wind Waker “Bloom Edition” trailer shown.
  • Features 1080p visuals and Miiverse integration.
  • Due in October 2013.
  • The Wonderful 101 trailer is shown.
  • Due in August 23rd.
  • There will be a future Wonderful 101 based Nintendo Direct.
  • Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze revealed.
  • Will be out before the end of the year.
  • You can swim now and Dixie Kong returns. Looks pretty great actually.
  • Bayonetta 2 trailer shown.
  • OMG, BAYONETTA HAS A NEW HAIR OMG. MEGATON!
  • Actual gameplay is shown.
  • Due sometime in 2014.
  • X trailer is shown, damn this game looks good.
  • Due sometime in 2014.
  • Super Smash Bros 4 trailer is shown.
  • Starts off with the 3DS version and transitions into the Wii U version.
  • Due sometime in 2014.
  • Megaman is a newcomer in Super Smash Bros 4.
  • Super Smash Bros 4 website is now live.
  • Super Smash Bros 4 Miiverse community is now also live.

Overall it was a pretty disappointing show from Nintendo, it was simply a case of not enough games. Donkey Kong looked great, X was stunning and Smash Bros will be the clear highlight for most. I would imagine Mario Kart 8 probably surprised many with how awesome it was, anti gravity racing is simply a genius addition to the series.

Super Mario 3D World ended up being a MAJOR disappointment, it literally looked like the 3DS game running in HD which is nice but I was hoping more something more, particularly when coming out the two Super Mario Galaxy games on Wii. The whole show felt like Nintendo didn’t have much to show and they even used the time to announce the delay of two games which makes you wonder what the hell Nintendo is up to.

It wasn’t a terrible E3 showing by any means but with the Wii U doing as rubbish as it is, Nintendo REALLY needed to come out swinging and instead delivered a punch in which they probably broke their knuckles in the process. I’m sorry Nintendo but you morons just don’t seem to understand what is at stake here, YOUR SYSTEM IS FLOPPING. DO SOMETHING!

Again, the Nintendo Direct E3 WASN’T bad but it simply wasn’t enough, we needed about 50% more of what they gave us. Nintendo, you need to turn it up to eleven and if that was it, then you might be in trouble.
