PlayStation Vita TV Revealed

Vita TV 600

The PlayStation Vita Slim wasn’t the only major announcement, Sony also have something called a PlayStation Vita TV. It’s something that I don’t remember anyone ever asking for but could prove to be an interesting experiment none the less.

PlayStation Vita TV is pretty much what the name implies, it’s a PlayStation Vita on your TV and I don’t think I’ll receiving any compliments for managing to decipher that one. It’s a small little box that measures in at 6.5cm by 10.5cm and plugs in to your TV via a HDMI cable. You’ll have access to over 1,300 Vita, PSP and PSOne titles in addition to other the other entertainment offerings the Vita provides such as movies or eBooks.

As you can see in the video above, a Dual Shock 3 controller will be included with the PlayStation Vita TV. Since the Dual Shock 3 controller obviously does not feature any kind of touch features, any titles that feature heavy use of it won’t be compatible although generally speaking most titles should be fine.

To make a potentially long and confusing story short, imagine the PlayStation Vita was turned into a console and you basically get the PlayStation Vita TV. It will be interesting to see how the PlayStation Vita TV content will scale to a larger resolution TV but at long last we can finally realise our dream of playing PSOne games on our TV…

The PlayStation Vita TV was announced over in Japan earlier today so as per usual Sony isn’t talking about it’s release anywhere else, assuming they are even planning such a thing. It will launch in Japan on November 14th for 9,480 yen (£60 / $950) or 14,980 yen (£95 / $150) if you want the DualShock 3 controller and 8GB memory card bundled in.
