The developers behind Dead Island are working on a new IP: Hellraid.
Fight, develop skills, collect loot and craft weapons while exploring a world devastated by demons. Treacherous swamps, squalid prisons and ancient catacombs will be among the settings of your adventure. Hellraid offers what’s best in the hack & slash genre but viewed from the immersive First-Person Perspective.
The game has been titled as “First-Person Co-Op Slasher”. I’m afraid I’m going to have to gauge Techland’s proficiency at making first person games using Dead Island - but damnit, one of the best things about it was getting a knife or machete with a high enough slicing stat and just chopping through waves and waves of undead like some post apocalyptic samurai.
If Techland are going to promise a game focused entirely based on that concept then bring it on.
Also, they have a bit more leeway in terms of design aesthetic: Techland no longer has to think within the limits of “survival weapons crafted by stoopid humans”. It’s now about weapons from the depths of hell - I mean, just look at these gorgeous silhouettes and see if they don’t tickle your desire for all things jaggedy and spikey.
There’s not much in-game footage atm, but for all your hairy lurkers out there, there’s tons of blog content for you to wade your way through - check it all out in blog-form on their Official Website.
Hold your horses hero - there is one video of gameplay from their Youtube channel (though it is mostly a snippet of a mocap session, but they’ve got actual content from the developing soundtrack that you absolutely must check out)
The graphics are looking superb to say the least; the motion capturing is integrated into the gameplay seamlessly for a flawless, breathing and believable monster. The art on the website is showing off some pretty slick design - with the company even listening to fan suggestions and feedback and responding with actual content!
Let’s just hope they listened to everyone when we were all complaining about the little nooks and crannies that were wrong with Dead Island…
Hellraid will be heading to PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
