The N64 had Super Mario 64, the Xbox had Halo and the Wii had Wii Sports which is now available on Wii U as part of a HD remake. It’s sadly not a brand new entry in the series which makes use of the GamePad but considering bowling is something of a timeless classic, seeing it remastered in HD isn’t anything to complain about.
Wii Sports Club for Wii U is a HD remake of 2006′s Wii Sports although this time round Nintendo have added in online play, a feature which should of been in the original. The “game” itself isn’t really a game but rather an app which can be downloaded from Nintendo’s eShop for free.
From within the app, users are able to purchase each of the sports separately so rather than be stuck with unwanted sports, you can just cherry pick your favourites. Each sport costs £8.99 to own or you can pay £1.79 instead to rent all the available sports for a 24 hour period.
At the moment only two sports are available, tennis and bowling. First time users of Wii Sports Club will be able to freely play both titles for the first 24 hours. After that period has ended you’ll have to decide whether you’d like to purchase a sport or rent it.
The original Wii Sports featured five different sports and Nintendo has promised that the remaining three will also be available at some point in the future. Hopefully once that’s done they’ll move on to remaking some of the stuff seen in Wii Sports Resort. Swordplay, archery, basketball and table tennis were my favourites.
Come to think about it, this Wii Sports Club app is pretty clever on Nintendo’s part. They should just keep adding sports to it over the years and let users pick what they do and don’t want.
