The original Zone of the Enders HD Collection was a bit half rough about the edges but Konami have now issued a new patch that aims to fix many of the issues. Interestingly enough whilst the HD port was handled by High Voltage Software, the patch itself was developed by HexaDrive. They’ve done REZ HD and Okami HD ports in the past so these guys definitely have experience in releasing non crappy HD upgrades.
Only the PlayStation 3 version of Zone of Enders HD Collection was the one affected by technical issues so the patch is designed to address that version. It weighs in at 594Mb and users have already reported made to the game’s framerate, aliasing and particle effects are now rendered in full resolution.
It’s worth noting that only Zone of Enders 2 is the one being patched as the HexaDrive logo only shows up for the sequel and not the first time. We’re now at a point where Zone of Enders 2 HD isn’t terrible any more but the original still suffers from unstable framerates. For what it’s worth Zone of Enders 2 is by far the better game but given that this is a HD Collection, ideally you’d want both games featured to perform as smoothly as possible.
This patch update for Zone of the Enders 2 HD has left me wondering if HexaDrive could do anything about Silent Hill HD Collection. Clearly that game is beyond saving but I’d love to see how much HexaDrive could salvage.
