Metal Gear Solid V TGS Gameplay Trailer

MGS 600

Let’s be honest here, TGS this year was kind of rubbish but at least we got some brand new Metal Gear Solid V gameplay footage to check out. It’s footage that will get some excited and possibly turn off others in the process, it’s Metal Gear Solid going all “modern” on us.

There’s no denying that Metal Gear Solid V is a fine looking title with some impressive lighting thanks to Konami’s new FOX engine. In that regard being modern isn’t a bad thing but regenerative health alongside a “bloody” screen is the dumbest trend in gaming today. Why Metal Gear Solid V chooses to incorporate these elements into it’s gameplay is beyond me.

In addition to the bloody screen of doom we also have some moments of “cinematic” slowdown during the CQC portions. Again I can’t say I understand the logic behind this but it’s there, as is sprinting because there’s not enough Call of Duty in our industry today.

Despite what I consider to be questionable design choices, Metal Gear Solid V does seem to borrow from Splinter Cell Conviction and Blacklist which I like. The idea of an open world Conviction/Blacklist style game does appeal to me so I’ll be keeping on eye on Metal Gear Solid V.

Get it? Because Big Boss only has one eye!

… I’ll see myself out.
