Ratchet and Clank Movie Announcement - Teaser

Sony have announced that Ratchet and Clank will be appearing in their own animated theatrical feature film.

Set to release in 2015, you can’t help but appreciate the underlying trans-media capabilities of videogames and movies.

But will it be any good?

Ratchet and Clank always ran against the Jak and Daxter series with a sort of friendly rival vibe going on - you were a fan of one or the other and I wholeheartedly chose Jak and Daxter. There is something more mature, something deeper and something all together more vivid going on in Jak and Daxter’s world that inspired me to see the series through to it’s unfortunate demise.

Ratchet and Clank however always felt like Jak and Daxter’s simpler cousin, always aiming for a younger audience who were more simply entertained - and we most definitely get those feelings from Sony’s latest teaser.

The jokes fall flat, and it’s nothing we haven’t seen before. I’m sure there’s a kid somewhere that fell over in hysteria at that dubstep joke, but that level of immaturity is something that I have long gotten over and I really hope the rest of the world has too. Contemporary comedy has developed intelligent, witty quirkiness and potential insight on the world around us - and goes out of it’s way to not include forced fistpumping and irish dancing.

Positives? The animation looks superb and the voice acting is top notch. These even look like higher quality iterations than the last Ratchet and Clank title and the series is well-known for it’s stunning visuals/gorgeous environments, so we definitely have those to look forward to. Last thing to note; this one looks to follow the strict rules of the game’s lore, let’s just pray they won’t be taking any liberties with this one (I’m looking at you: Tekken the movie).
