The Last Guardian PS4 Bound?

original

Fumito Ueda, a designer on The Last Guardian, has updated his website to hint at new information regarding the game coming soon, PS4 anyone?

This game has been a pain in my ass for a number of years now, I bought my PlayStation 3 to play basically two games that I couldn’t play on my Xbox 360 and they were Uncharted & The Last Guardian. Since then we’ve seen four different Uncharted games (five if you include the Vita card game) and yet not a single Last Guardian, to say this game is undergoing development hell is an understatement.

Team ICO are the ones responsible for The Last Guardian, past works include ICO and the truly fantastic Shadow of the Colossus which launched back in 2005 or 2006 because we Europeans always get screwed. Not long after that game came out work got under way on The Last Guardian and the game has been delayed numerous times since it’s original “late 2011″ release date.

A lot of gamers including myself are wondering what the hell is going on with this title?

By now many have given up hope, some already think of it as a cancelled game but it appears there is a glimmer of hope. Fumito Ueda who is currently serving as a freelance designer on The Last Guardian released the following statement on his website.

As some of you may have heard, I left Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio some time ago to pursue my creative passions. Nevertheless, I continue working on THE LAST GUARDIAN as a freelance contributor.

While it’s been a long time coming, THE LAST GUARDIAN remains under my creative supervision and is still in development by an incredibly talented team.

I should also mention that details regarding THE LAST GUARDIAN’s release is solely decided by Sony Computer Entertainment, not myself. Please keep an eye out for their official announcement.

Moving forward, it is my intent to continue my involvement with THE LAST GUARDIAN project, as well as pursue new creative projects with a fresh perspective. As I rekindle my passions as a creator, I look forward to seeing where it will take me, and I deeply appreciate your support during this transition.

It’s great to hear that the game is still alive but it’s been a VERY long time since we’ve SEEN anything new regarding it. What’s striking about this small update is the fact that it’s awfully close to Sony’s February 20th event in which the PlayStation 4 is expected to be revealed.

I’m not trying to mislead anyone here but would it be stupid of me to assume somewhere along the way the game has been moved to the PlayStation 4? Hell at this point I don’t even care, release it on the PSOne if you want but damn it I really want to see more of this one. It’s one of those games that shows the world that videogames can be so much more than just online first person shooters.

I guess I’ll leave you now with the last footage seen of the game, this one is from E3 2009. Considering it’s a three year old trailer one has to wonder if this is even representative of the game any more.
