Remember that Wii mini that was released in Canada exclusively? Well it’s going to be launching in Europe next month. I’m not exactly sure there is a demand for such a thing but Nintendo seems to think so and we should at the very least be grateful to have the option of owning one.
First we take a look at the press release.
Wii Mini is smaller than the original Wii, and comes in matte black with a red border. Included with the console are a red Wii Remote Plus and a red Nunchuk controller, with Wii Mini also being compatible with most existing Wii accessories.
With a family-friendly design offering no internet capabilities, Wii Mini allows you to jump straight in and experience all the great Wii games from the last six years since the Wii console first launched. To coincide with the launch of Wii Mini, Nintendo is also adding to the existing range of Nintendo Selects titles, offering great value for everyone to enjoy classic Wii games. While Nintendo Selects games such as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy and Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City are already available.
Everyone at Nintendo is likely excited by this announcement but we need to focus on a couple of things here first regarding the Wii mini.
- No internet capabilities, both wired or wireless.
- Not backwards compatible with GameCube Software.
- No support for 480p component video.
The Wii mini isn’t even all that much smaller from the original Wii meaning it’s a bit of a hard sell at the end of the day. The final nail in the coffin is that the Wii U features perfect backwards compatibility with Wii software so if you’re going to pick up a new system, you might as well go for the Wii U.
If you ever wanted a little more Fisher Price in your Wii then the Wii mini launches March 22nd and should be available for something in the £70-80 range.
