Nintendo have randomly announced on their Twitter account a release date for the upcoming Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. The port is being handled by Monster Games who you may remember for developing such titles as Excitetruck, Excitebots and Pilotwings Resort. Retro Studios is obviously too busy with Wii U to be porting over games to the 3DS.
In an ideal world we would be talking about Donkey Kong Land Returns which would of been awesome, on the plus side I always did think all the foreground and background jumping around would of been a natural fit for the 3DS. If you missed out on the original Donkey Kong Country Returns on Wii then don’t worry, you only denied yourself from playing one of the greatest 2D platformers ever, yes right up there with Super Mario Bros 3.
There you have it then, May 24th is the day you’ll be able to get your hands on a “don’t have to waggle to roll” Donkey Kong Country Returns port. Since it’s a port I can’t I sadly can’t give it my full blessing but if you’ve never played it on Wii, then I cannot recommend this game enough. It’s utterly fantastic.
