Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Launch Trailer

Donkey Kong 600 x 300

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is now just one week away and Nintendo have saved the best trailer until last. Up until now it seems that Nintendo have been releasing some half assed trailers but we now finally have a trailer that does the game (and the soundtrack) justice.

The fine folks at Retro Studios are responsible for the Donkey Kong Country series these days following Nintendo decision to sell Rare back in 2002. Their first attempt at the Donkey Kong Country series came in the form of Donkey Kong Country Returns for the original Wii in 2010 and is often considering the best entry alongside Donkey Kong Country 2.

Improvements made in Tropical Freeze consist of a new dynamic camera system that not only makes the game look like a 3D platformer at times, it also opens up new gameplay opportunities. Retro Studios had previously experimented with a dynamic camera system in Returns alongside never to this degree.

Additional welcomed changes include the removal of shaking the Wii Remote to roll, it’s still there if you want it but players using the GamePad or Wii U Pro controller can enjoy a waggle-less experience. The momentum killing blow mechanic is gone and instead comes a new pull mechanic in it’s place that can be used to access new areas.

Finally the biggest selling point to Tropical Freeze is the return of David Wise to score the game’s soundtrack. Longtime fans of David will remember his work from the original trilogy on the SNES and having him back on board after not being available for Returns is literally a dream come true.

You can hear the legend that is David Wise in the fantastic trailer below.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze will be available on February 21st. Additionally you can also pick it up as a digital download on Nintendo’s eShop.
