Microsoft and Epic Games have revealed the newest map pack for Gears of War Judgment titled “Call to Arms”. Yes, the game with a stupidly low number of multiplayer player maps is receiving a few more and yes, you’re going to have to pay for these.
Anyone else remember when they used to give away free maps packs in 2007 for the original Gears of War? Well neither does Microsoft or Epic Games it appears. In fact, the price of this map pack may surprise you but we’ll get to that later.
The Call to Arms map pack will consist of three new maps in addition to a new multiplayer mode. Let’s take a look.
- Terminal: The speed and ferocity of the Locust invasion took Halvo Bay completely by surprise. Residents scrambled to evacuate by every means possible, and COG forces were called in to maintain order as martial law was enforced. However, the Locust showed no mercy, and gave no quarter; they swept through train terminals like this one to take advantage of the close quarters and sheer number of defenceless humans trapped within its walls. Sometimes, COG forces could hold the line long enough for a final evacuation, but too many lost their lives in defence of the people and the land they loved.
- Blood Drive: As casualties started to mount, the staff at Halvo Memorial quickly began what would become the largest triage effort in the history of Sera. Their “Give Blood Today” campaign inspired a global blood drive in support of COG forces and wounded civilians. Sadly, Halvo fell quickly, and the hospital became a battlefront instead of a sanctuary. The seed of hope was planted, however, and government-run Memorial hospitals across the country mobilised to keep the effort alive until Jacinto Memorial was the last standing bastion of hope for the people of Sera.
- Boneyard: The concept of traditional memorial services had to be suspended due to the constant stream and alarming volume of casualties as Sera fell victim to the Locust Horde. Memorial grounds quickly became boneyards. Unmarked holes became grave sites and mausoleums were filled with the nameless remains of the fallen, their skeletons piled into heaps. Tread lightly, you never know what, or who, you’re walking on, and one day you’re bound to join them.
- New Mode: “Master At Arms”
This new free-for-all game mode exclusive to “Gears of War: Judgment” will test the true range of your soldiering skills. The goal is to get a kill with each of the 20 different available weapons, without resorting to melee or grenade tactics. Every successful kill will automatically advance you to the next available weapon until you have used them all and proven your skill as a true Master at Arms.
There you have it then, three new maps all for the usual price of 800 Microsoft points. I’m actually joking, it’s 1000 Microsoft points. Hey you might be wondering why I’m not taking this post very seriously and quite frankly it’s simple, I don’t care much for how Microsoft and Epic Games are treating it’s customers.
I understand that this is a business and people are here to make money but Gears of War Judgment’s multiplayer mode might as well be called free to play with a retail price slapped on. I’ve written over 400 posts since I started working for Masonic Gamer and never have I felt so dirty doing a news post.
It’s 1000 Microsoft points, it comes out on April 30th and there’s some new achievements worth 250G. You can alternately pick up the season pass for 1600 Microsoft points which will land you this map pack alongside another upcoming map pack making for a total of six multiplayer maps and two new modes.
Gears of War 3 shipped with ten maps, Gears of War Judgment will feature eleven by the time all the DLC is released. Hold on, isn’t Blood Drive just a reskin of an old Gears of War map? Well anyway, buy the Call to Arms map pack if you want but I think I’ve made my point clear with this post. Here’s some bullshots to finish off with.
