Nintendo finally revealed the next Mario game will look like and it’s called Super Mario 3D World but it’s probably not what you expected. As a matter of fact I don’t think ANYONE saw this coming, Nintendo is very good at keeping secrets and not one of the “leaks” we saw prior to E3 suggested that we’d be seeing a sequel to Super Mario 3D Land.
If like me you were hoping for something along the lines of “Super Mario Galaxy 3″ or “Super Mario 64 2″ then prepare for disappointment. If however you didn’t come into this one with much expectation then you’ll likely be very pleased with what you’ll find in the trailer below.
Super Mario 3D World is the latest 3D Mario title heading to the Wii U, the game appears to be a direct sequel to the same style of gameplay we saw in 3D Land although it’s all running in HD now. Multiplayer support has been added and we can see multiple players running around madly much like the New Super Mario Bros series.
The most exciting element thus far would be the addition of the “cat” power up which allows players to run up walls and even flagpoles to collect that 1UP. There’s no doubt in my mind that this game will be an enjoyable platformer when it launches later this year but it’s definitely not what I wanted, at least not this early into the Wii U’s lifecycle.
